THE CANCER COUCH FOUNDATION

2019/2020

To raise AWAREness for the need for funding for metastatic breast cancer research, AWARE launched a photography campaign.  Portraits included personal quotes about the impact of breast cancer on each subject.  Photographs were displayed online and in local stores and restaurants.  AWARE also hosted a gallery exhibit fundraiser and an online wellness week in support of Cancer Couch..

 The Cancer Couch Foundation raises funds for metastatic breast cancer research.

CIRI – TEENAGE GIRLS’ CLUB

2018/2019

AWARE created a Girls’ Club for female teenage refugees in which AWARE members served monthly healthy dinners and provided activities such as dance, yoga, drawing, jewelry making, baking and homework help.  It provided a unique opportunity for the girls to come together in a safe space with compassionate community members. 

 

CIRI named AWARE CT as Volunteer Group Partner of the year.

CIRI provides legal, economic, linguistic, and social services to immigrants, refugees, and survivors of human trafficking and torture.

CAROLINE HOUSE

2017/2018

During our Caroline House partnership, AWARE CT:
 

  • Provided resume and interview workshops

  • Served dinners and provided English language practice

  • Offered art workshops to children

  • Organized a clothing and accessories drive

  • Hosted a fundraiser

  • Published cookbook with recipes from Caroline House students and AWARE members.

Caroline House enables women and children to reach their full potential through education in English language and general life skills.

MALTA HOUSE

2016/2017

During our Malta House partnership, AWARE CT:
 

  • Served monthly dinners

  • Provided monthly activities for new or expecting mothers including cooking lessons, nutrition tips, onsie decorating and making dream catchers.

  • Volunteered to watch babies in the nursery.

  • Hosted a fundraiser at a Weston Farm.

  • Organized a panel discussion on homelessness in Fairfield County.

  • AWARE Kids made no-sew blankets for the new mothers and babies.

  • Decorated the home for the holidays.

FEMALE SOLDIERS: FORGOTTEN HEROES

During our Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes partnership,, AWARE CT:
 

  • Provided monthly dinners for the residents.

  • Decorated the home for the holidays.

  • Hosted a fundraiser.

  • Organized a panel discussion on female service members including one woman from each branch of the military.

Female Soldiers: Forgotten Heroes is a transitional home for homeless female Veterans in Bridgeport. ​It is a division of Homes for the Brave.

2018/2019

During our Mercy Learning Center partnership, AWARE CT:
 

  • Provided english language practice sessions

  • Performed mock interviews.

  • Organized arts and craft activities .

  • Hosted a fundraiser.

IICONN - PROJECT RESCUE

2013/2014

During our ICONN: Project Rescue partnership, AWARE CT:
 

  • Organized educational lectures about sex trafficking 

  • Hosted a fundraiser.

  • Assembled 35 emergency backpacks with supplies for victims of human trafficking.  These backpacks help victims in need on the first night after being brought to safety.

IICONN (International Institute of Connecticut) was renamed CIRI (Connecticut's Institute for Refugees and Immigrants.  CIRI’s Project Rescue is an Anti-Human Trafficking Program.  Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which victims are forced, defrauded or coerced into labor or sexual exploitation.
